What is Intersectional Therapy?

Our mental health is shaped by more than individual experiences. Culture, race, gender, sexuality, class, family systems, religion, immigration experiences, disability, privilege, oppression, and the larger social and political systems around us all matter.

Providing intersectional care means understanding that healing cannot be separated from context. Stress, burnout, anxiety, grief, and trauma are often connected to the systems we move through, not just personal struggles. Therapy should make space for both.


Intersectionality

Intersectionality recognizes that our identities do not exist separately from one another.

Race, gender, sexuality, class, disability, culture, religion, and other parts of identity overlap and shape how we experience the world. Privilege and oppression can exist at the same time, and both deserve thoughtful attention.

This work includes talking openly about things like:

  • Racism and microaggressions

  • Classism and economic stress

  • Feminism and gender-based oppression

  • Capitalism, burnout, and survival under systems that demand constant productivity

  • Family and cultural expectations and/or obligations

  • Immigration experiences

  • Generational patterns

  • Religious harm and spiritual identity

  • Power dynamics in relationships, work, and institutions

Therapy can be a place to name these experiences without minimizing them or treating them like they exist separately from your mental health.

  • QTBIPOC clients navigating identity and belonging

  • People managing burnout in high-demand careers

  • Clients navigating family, cultural, or religious expectations

  • Adults processing systemic oppression, discrimination, or identity-based stress

  • People trying to unlearn survival patterns that no longer serve them


My Approach

I approach therapy through social justice, multicultural, feminist, queer, trauma-informed, and strengths-based frameworks. I take the time to understand your experiences in context, not just your symptoms. I pay attention to the systems around you, the relationships you move through, and the resilience you have already built.

Therapy with me is collaborative, honest, and grounded in respect. I am not here to tell you who to be, but to help you better understand yourself, challenge what no longer serves you, and move toward a life that feels more aligned with your values.
